The Gala Apple – dancing perilously on the edge!

Everybody loves Gala…really, they do. And what a crunchy, juicy flavorful eating apple it is!

But he Gala we grow is one of those unfortunate living things which mature during the most perilous times for them. When the temperature gets hot, and there is rain (we call them ‘wetting events’), they split. We’ve lost our entire crop several times to splitting. One minute you have a full, beautiful crop; a moment later they are only suitable for juicing, and only for a short time, as cracks lead to insects and infections. Yikes!

The Gala comes to us from New Zealand with distinguished parentage: Golden Delicious and Kidd’s Orange Red.
Our Gala ranges in size from small to medium size, and that seems to be just what our customers want. The large ones are plenty at a time, and the smaller ones are perfect for the school lunch bag.

So come out soon to pick your own, before they fall victim to that horrible combination of heat and wet.

You can pick them up at our store. We are now open 7 Days a Week from 10 am to 5 pm. Or stop by our stand at the Charles Town Market on Saturdays from 8 am to noon, or the Shepherdstown Farmers Market on Sundays from 9 to 1 pm.
